Pet Toy Prices 2026: What 507 Dog and Cat Toys Actually Cost

Key finding: The median single dog or cat toy sold direct by 7 US pet toy brands costs $11.99 (507 toys, collected 2026-09-26). Dog toys run $12.99, cat toys $9.99. 89% of toys start under $20, while electronic toys have a median of $39.99.
We built this dataset because most "how much do pet toys cost" answers online are guesses. Every number below comes from a price that a brand published on its own store, and the full row-level data is free to download.
Dog toys vs cat toys
A typical dog toy costs $3.00 more than a typical cat toy. Dog toys are larger, use more rubber or ballistic fabric, and are more often sold in several sizes.

Prices by toy type
Electronic and automatic toys cost about 3.3 times the overall median. Puzzle and treat-dispensing toys (median $15.99) cost more than plush toys (median $9.99).

"Petmate family" covers the toy lines sold on petmate.com, including Chuckit!, JW Pet, Mad Cat, Quirky Kitty, Hyper Pet, Zoobilee and Fat Cat.
Other findings
- 29.6% of toys are sold in more than one size or variant, so the price you pay can be higher than the "from" price shown above.
- Only 3.4% of toys showed a markdown (a compare-at price above the current price) on the collection date.
- The cheapest toy in the dataset listed at $1.99 and the most expensive at $149.99.
Methodology
- Source: the public product catalogs of 7 official brand web stores: West Paw, Benebone, Jolly Pets, Tearribles, SmarterPaw (Meowijuana), Petmate family, Cheerble. Each store publishes its catalog in machine-readable form at
/products.json. - Collection date: 2026-09-26 (UTC). Prices change, so treat this as a snapshot.
- Sample: 507 single-unit toys (324 for dogs, 183 for cats). We removed multi-packs, bundles, gift sets, subscription boxes, wholesale listings, replacement parts, treats, loose catnip, beds, scratchers and cat furniture.
- Price used: the lowest variant price in USD, before tax and shipping. The highest variant price is also in the CSV.
- Classification: pet and toy type were assigned from the product title, the brand's product type and the brand's own tags, using keyword rules that are published with the data.
- Download: pet-toy-prices-2026-09.csv (one row per toy, with the product URL so each price can be checked).
Limitations
- This is not a survey of what owners spend. It measures list prices, not purchases, and it does not cover food, grooming or vet costs.
- Brands were chosen because their stores publish a public catalog. Petmate's toy lines make up 311 of the 507 toys, so the overall median leans toward its pricing. Use the brand table to compare.
- Big-box retailers such as Chewy, Amazon, Walmart and Petco were not included, and their prices can be lower or higher.
- Keyword classification can put a small number of toys in the wrong type. Toys that matched no rule are listed as "Other".
